The Nativity play

The Nativity play (Jasełka) is a performance connected with Christmas. It has taken a formula by the Mediaeval, Franciscan mysteries. Jasło means an old Polish crib. Saint Francesco of Assisi is regarded as a creator of Christmas staging. This kind of play has been still rooted in Polish tradition.
27th of February, 2015 a show of the finalists of Inter – Schools Contest of the Nativity Play was held in the ‘Mask’ theatre in Rzeszow. It was organized by the Primary School number 10 in Rzeszow.
The winner was the Primary School number 8. The students from this school presented the performance titled ‘Gifts for the Holy Child’. The pupils from The Primary School number 16 received the second prize for the play titled ‘Greetings at the Crib’. The Primary School from Malawa got the third prize for the performance ‘There was no place for You…’. A special award went to the Primary School number 22 in Rzeszow. Its students prepared the play titled ‘Once upon a time in Bethlehem..’.
Cups and diplomas for all rewarded finalists were organized by the headmaster of the Primary School numer 10 in Rzeszow – Artur de Sternberg Stojałowski. This year the final was honoured by the arrival of the Bishop of Rzeszow Diocese – Jan Wątroba. His Eminence congratulated the young ‘actors’ on their success and handed the prizes to them.
The Bishop thanked the organizers for the great work with the organization of yearly competition. He emphasized the fact of importance of keeping our traditions alive.
The main role of this contest is to support national and Christmas traditions. It is very important to prepare young people for active participation in a local, cultural life. Both an audience and the young actors enjoy singing carols together. We feel joy because of traditional influence on development of national unity and identity. Our school has its participation in this difficult task by organizing this contest.
Thanks to such events the young generation becomes more and more sensitive to Polish heritage and tradition. We aren’t allowed to forget about some values like love, brotherhood, compassion and unity. They are the most important in our life. It is always worth fighting for them. See photos:
